The propylene or propene (nomenclature IUPAC) is organic chemicals of chemical formula C 3 H 6 having a double connection. So it is unsaturated and ready to be transformed into a multitude of other products.

It is the simplest second Hydrocarbure of the class of the Alcène S (simplest being the ethylene).

It is obtained by Craquage with the vapor starting from the Naphta, but can be also obtained by catalytic cracking and hydrocraquage.

At temperature and environmental pressure, the propylene is a Gaz. It is colorless and odorless (like the majority of simple hydrocarbons) and highly flammable. It is present in the Gas for domestic use. The propylene is a major compound of the petrochemical industry. The propylene is used mainly like Monomère, primarily for the production of the Polypropylène. It is also used as raw material in chemical industry for the following products:

  • propan-2-ol.
  • oxide of propylene.
  • Acrylonitrile.
  • Cumène (isopropylbenzene).
