Propulsion

The propulsion is the principle which makes it possible a body to be driven in its space environnant.
It calls upon an engine which transforms into driving force the energy provided by the external medium or an engine.

The propulsion can indicate by extension the production of this force, for example " propulsion nucléaire" , which introduces a confusion between part driving and left propulsive.
In the place of " propulsion musculaire" , English uses the expression " human powered" , which is more exact.

Mediums of propulsion and engines

Source of energy, engine

  • muscular: human Propulsion, animal Propulsion
  • thermal: internal combustion engine (gasoline, diesel, rocket) or external (steam engine), Propulsion with chemical reaction
  • : chemical Propulsion
  • electric: electrical motor, electric Propulsion
  • hydraulic or pneumatic: pumps
  • wind: veil
