The propranolol () is a molecule used as Médicament belonging to the class of the Bêta-bloquant S. It was developed at the end of the Fifties by the scientist James W. Black who obtained the Nobel Prize of medicine in 1988 for this discovery.

Properties

It is about one of the very first developed beat-blockings. It is known as not cardio-selective bus blocks the receivers cardiac beta-1 and noncardiac beta-2 (vessels, Bronche S). By this skew, it decreases, even cancels, the arrival of the nerve impulses on the Cœur, increases the contraction of the blood-vessels, reduced the oxygen uptake of the heart and blocks the functions of the Nervous system sympathetic nerve on the other bodies.

The molecule being old, the patent of manufacture fell into the public domain. It is thus available under a generic fome .

Uilisations

With cardiac aiming, this molecule was gradually supplanted by more recent molecules, acting only on the heart. It is thus hardly any more used (even if it remains effective) in:

It remains interesting for the noncardiac problems;

  • in the event of Hyperthyroïdie,
  • in certain cardiac diseases,
  • in prevention of the Migraine S and the facial pains (variety of migraines),
  • in prevention of the digestive bleedings among patients reached of Cirrhosis,
  • in certain tremors, in particular the essential Tremor
  • in prevention of situation Stress handle (trac).

From these modes of actions very varied, this molecule is largely used in the medical world but also in psychiatry (to treat certain light forms of anxiety or to decrease by the tremors related to the catch of other drugs) and by sportsmen amateurs in order to lower the cardiac rhythm and to obtain a greater endurance (it is classified officially, like all the beat-blockings, like doping molecule). The propranolol is the subject of a growing passion because certain researchers affirm that it would make it possible to remind stressing situations already lived while gumming the emotional impact.
