The Propofol is an agent Anesthésique intravenous of short duration of action used for induction at the time of a general anesthesia, at adult or pediatric patients of more than 3 years; for the maintenance of a general anesthesia among the pediatric adults or patients of more than 2 months; and for sedation in unit of intensive care/reanimation for the adults intubés and broken down mechanically.

Propofol is authorized for the induction and the maintenance of the anesthesias in more than 50 countries.

This anesthetic which acts approximately 5 minutes is also used in the emergency services to unchoke the operating room suites of small interventions which require a General anesthesia (AG). (In February 2007 only two services of the urgencies in a EPS uses it in France). For example, a person with a Luxation of Prosthesis of Hip following a clumsy movement. In order to position back the prosthesis in its cavity, it would be advisable to carry out in operating room suite AG with the patient for an intervention of only a few minutes.
