Prokofiy Demidoff
Prokofiy Afinkievitch Demidoff is an industrialist and Russian philanthropist born in 1710 and died in 1786.
Oldest son of Akinfiy Demidoff, Prokofiy Demidoff inherited an enormous fortune with died of his father in 1745.
He liberally employed it with charitable works, melting an orphanage and a scientific institute with Moscow, a business school with Saint-Pétersbourg where he also financed the opera and, through Russia, of the hundreds of schools for the people. He was with the number of the founders of several philanthropic institutions.
Its eccentricities were famous. Thus, because it estimated to be rolled by the British merchants at the time of a stay to England, it bought one day all hemp available in order to “ give a lesson to the English ”.
In spite of that, it increased family fortune further since with its death, it had 55 foundries and iron-foundries.
