The projection of Fuller of the Ground is the cartographic Projection of a chart on the surface of a Polyèdre. It was created by Richard Buckminster Fuller, in 1946 for a projection on a Cuboctaèdre and a Icosaèdre in 1954. The 20 triangles can be positioned differently, this chart not having neither high nor low.

In English, it is named in Dymaxion map . Dymaxion is the Acronyme of “in ''' dyn ''' amic ''' max ''' imum Tens ''' ion '''” used by Richard Buckminster Fuller for several of its inventions.

Properties

According to Fuller, its projection has many advantages compared to other projections.

  • It presents less deformations in particular compared to the Projection of Mercator and Projection of Peters.

  • It does not present a cultural Biais, the Northern is not in top, nor the Southern in bottom.
  • It is the representation of a single island in a single ocean
