Progressive Aspect

The progressive aspect indicates a development by stages of the action: the evil is growing .

This Aspect is rare in French since it is limited to turning archaïsante to go + Gérondif and with the periphrasis not always natural (according to the verbs) to be in the train of : it is singing . However this last turning is reserved by Wilmet with the durative aspect , just as turning to be to occupy with .

On the other hand, it is very important in English (it is the aspect “progressive” of the “present continuous” Be + ing , I amndt swimming , “I am swimming”, or of the past continuous I was swimming ).

This aspect is also very important and systematic in Japanese ( taberu /たべる, “it eats”, tabeteiru /たべている, “it is eating”) or in Turkish ( geldi : it came/ geliyordu : it was coming).
