Progressive

Definition

One cannot really define this style because it with is crossed various currents which cross the electronic music; it is either 4 to the floor or breakbeat :

electro, with a sub-genus called prog-electro, the principal representatives of this style being James Holden or Nathan Fake for example. Its characteristic is the resumption of the analogical sounds of the machines used into electro, such as the TB303, the TR909, etc
Trance, with the melody roots of the trance, without the grandiloquent side of the great arpeggios of synthés Trance. This part is extremely appreciated by certain amateurs of Trance. Moreover, much of pieces progressive is played by the DJ trance like Armin van Buuren or Tiësto. Other names: (Uplifting Trance, Trance Hardware….)

House, where the sound progressive finds many of its influences, in particular the groove so characteristic of the titles house, that it is on the level of the rate/rhythm but also of the base lines. The house part is really the heart of the progressive one.
Ambient, of which it is rarer to find influences clear in the progressive one, but a good number of titles use the tablecloths of synthés resting of this style if appreciated by the clubbers ibicéens in the small hour. Generally it is associated with a rate/rhythm station-wagon, thus forming the melodic station-wagon . The principal artists are Tim Fretwell or DIGITAL Witchcraft.
