Progreso is a port city of the state of the Yucatan to the Mexico. It is located at the western north of the state, on the Gulf of Mexico. Its geographical coordinates are 21.28 Western North degrees and 89.67 degrees. It is at a few 45 minutes by the highway in the north of the capital of the state, Merida. In 2003, the estimated population of Progreso rose with 45.000 people.

Progreso is an important center for the fishing industry and that of the containers. All the containers arrive at Progreso before being distributed in Yucatan, the Campeche and the Quintana Roo. Progreso also succeeded in attracting the trade of cruisings and is from now on a stopover for many boats of cruising which stop there between 24 and 36 hours leaving time to the passengers to visit the city or that of Merida. Progreso is a tourist city appreciated for its beaches. There is a very pretty walk along the sea and from many restaurants skirt the “Malecón”, this walk.
