Program of the United Nations for the development
The Programme of the United Nations for the development (UNDP) is a specialized agency of UNO. Its role is to help the Pays in the process of development in their providing councils but also by pleading their causes for the granting of gifts. Thus this program works in collaboration with many other programs (Onusida, Unifem…) and international organizations (UPU, WHO, etc).
Its seat is with New York, with the the United States.
Its main axes of action are:
- to promote the democratic governorship ;
- to reduce the Poverty;
- to prevent the crises (Catastrophe S, War S…) ;
- to help with durable management resources (energy, Environment);
- to prevent the propagation of the HIV/AIDS;
- in a total way, to promote the Human development.
Publication
The UNDP publishes each year, since 1990, a Rapport on human development. This report/ratio classifies more than 160 countries according to the Indicateur of human development (IDH).
Composition
The UNDP counts in 2002 36 Member States.
The May 5th 2005, the General meeting of the United Nations decided unanimously that the Administrator succeeding Mark Malloch Brown (then named general Vice-secretary of the United Nations by Kofi Annan) would be the Turkish Kemal Derviş. Dervis was then Député with the Turkish Parlement and was Ministre for the Economy. It took up duty for a 4 years mandate the August 15th 2005.
The Administrator of the UNDP is the most important third nobody in the U.N. hierarchy, after the General secretary and the general vice-Secretary of the Organization.
