In the world of Harry Potter, created by J.K. Rowling, of many students attend the school of magic of Poudlard. The latter is directed by Albus Dumbledore (until some chapters of the end of the 6th volume), and the professors are (alphabetically):
- Mrs Bibine (original version: Hooch ): professor of flight on brushes and referee of the matches of Quidditch.
- Professor Binns: professor of history of the magic; it is the only phantom professor of the school; it is said that it never realized of its death.
- Thimothéus Brûlopot (original version: Kettleburn ): professor de Soins with the Magic Creatures until the third year.
- Pomona Chourave (original version: Sprout ): botanical professor of ; it is director of the house of Poufsouffle.
- Filius Flitwick : professor of enchantments, director of the Serdaigle house; it is a small man who must perch himself on books to give his course.
- Willhelmina Gobe-Board (original version: Grubbly-Plank ): replace Hagrid while it is not in a position to make its courses.
- Rubeus Hagrid : becomes professor of care to the magic creatures in third year but guard its functions of guard of the places and keys of Poudlard. One learns in the 4th tome cheese his nature from half-giant (his/her mother, Fridulva, left the family home quickly, not being very maternal). He adores the magic creatures but tends to find them fantastic only if they are dangerous.
- Minerva McGonagall : professor of metamorphosis and assistant editor of Poudlard; she is also director of the house of Gryffondor, it is a severe woman but just. She becomes director of Poudlard to dead of Dumbledore
- Dolores Jane Ombrage (original version: Umbridge ): sent by the ministry for the Magic in the fifth volume, it is in fact professor of defense against the forces of the Evil, but becomes also Grande Inquisitrice and benefits from this statute to return professor Trelawney and to inspect his colleagues. During the absence of Dumbledore, it becomes Directrice and constitutes the brigade Inquisitoriale the purpose of which is to remove any rebellion against the ministry.
- Severus Rogue (original version: Severus Snape ): professor of potions, of 1st with the 5th volume, professor of defense against the forces of the evil in the 6th volume and Director of Poudlard in the 7th volume; former student in same year as Sirius Black and parents of Harry.
- Professor Sinistra: professor of Astronomy.
- Horace Slughorn : professor de Potions in the 6th volume; it is a former friend of Dumbledore and reprocessed professor of potions, at the time with the head of the house Serpentard, which agrees to take again its post office at the request of Dumbledore, whereas Severus Rogue obtains finally the post of professor of defense against the forces of the evil. It has a large moustache of Morse and has a belly worthy of this name; he is bald person. Moreover it is rather jovial. He is the organizer of the " club of Slug " , including/understanding its preferred pupils. It will find temporarily the position of director of Serpentard at the end of volume 6, after the escape of Severus Rogue.
- Sibyl Trelawney: professor of Divination; it frequently confabulates and with the mania to predict the death of Harry. However, it enters sometimes in fright and it is it which emitted the prophecy which is the key of the history. It starts to drinking in the 5th volume after Ombrage put it to the test, calling into question its capacities of teaching. It shares its courses with the Centaure Firenze at the end of volume 5.
- Professor Vector: professor of Arithmancie.
- Charity Burbage : professor de Civilization Moldue. Killed in volume 7 by Voldemort with the rod of Lucius Malefoy.
Let us note that the professor of defense against the forces of the evil changes each year. Since Dumbledore refused this station with Lord Voldemort, it with the reputation to be cursed. Indeed, each year, the professor the occupant is brought to leave it:
- 1st volume: Quirinus Quirell, had by the wandering heart of Voldemort, dies at the end.
- 2nd volume: Gilderoy Lockhart, genuine star in the world of the wizards thanks to its works. Actually, it is an impostor who monopolizes the exploits of the others in their while making lose the memory and by allotting them. It is punished by where it has fault, becoming in its amnesic turn by its own fate which is turned over against him.
- 3rd volume: Remus J. Lupin, werewolf and former comrade of the father of Harry; he resigns of his station (Rogue having revealed “accidentally” his true nature with the pupils) because he is afraid of the reaction of the parents of the pupils, in spite of the potion which he takes to limit his aggressiveness at the time of his transformations.
- 4th volume: Alastor Maugrey, known as Maugrey Fol Eye (original version: Mad-Eye Moody ), which has a magic eye and a wooden leg; he learns from many fates to the pupils. Actually, it is a Mangemort, Barty Croupton Jr., which took the appearance of true Maugrey. Impostor is uncovered with the end of the year, and true Maugrey is delivered.
- 5th volume: Dolores Jane Shade (original version: Umbridge ), an odious woman sent by the ministry for the magic, which becomes Grande Inquisitrice de Poudlard, thus being able to inspect his/her colleagues and espionner Dumbledore. It becomes, with the end of the year and for very little time, director of Poudlard, to replace Dumbledore. She disappears in the prohibited forest, taken along by the centaurs. One then finds it with the infirmary, then it leaves Poudlard.
- 6th volume: Severus Rogue, which reaches its desire finally, that Dumbledore refused to him hitherto: to teach defense against the forces of the evil. It kills Dumbledore while launching a Avada Kedavra, whereas this one is disarmed, and leaves the school.
- 7th volume: Amycus Carrow, mangemort was named by professor Rogue. He does not learn with his pupils defense against the forces from the evil but “art from the black magic”.
In addition, a centaur named Firenze sign divination during part of the fifth year, after the reference of Sibyl Trelawney by Dolores Shade. In the 6th volume, Firenze and Sibylle Trelawney teach both, by being distributed the classes.
