Recognized like scientist more endowed with the history, his/her Maria niece suffered from a rare disease which prevented it from living on Earth. Wanting to cure it, he creates the Ark space station is lives there with her while waiting to find a remedy. He collects also a young orphan who will become later the general GUN.
Wanting to create a companion with Maria, it tries to create ultimate form of life, Shadow. It does not arrive there. It is made help by extraterrestrial cruel Black Doom which gives its blood to Shadow to make it not-growing old. Old age and the diseases will not be right of him. In exchange, Shadow will have to find chaos emerealds for the vessel of Black Doom. It needs the power of the emeralds to cross the atmosphere. Robotnik is not agreement, it wanted that its creation brought peace. It thus decides to reprogram it so that it never does it. The Gun army, having seen the extraterrestrial vessel, attacks Ark and destroys all creations and kills Maria. Shadow will be transferred onto Ground by Maria. The professor, insane of pain, decides repogrammer Shadow so that it succeeds in controlling the ecclipse gun, a gun which will destroy the ground.
