The professional training is the process of training which makes it possible an individual to acquire the To know and the Savoir-faire (skills and competences) necessary to the exercise of a trade or an community activity. Historically related to the organizations of the work world, professional training narrowly takes part in the creation of the professional identities.

Integrated in the Education system, professional training is still traditionally associated with the practice and the technique of the levels post-secondary and/or tertiary sectors not-academic rather than with the theory and the conceptual abstraction which characterize the university tertiary level.

Addressing themselves to teenagers and adults, developing know-how and specific Knowledge S, mobilizing evolution resources constant, professional training belongs to the education of the adults and occupies a research field and of development with whole share in sciences of education (pedagogy for professional training).

One distinguishes two phases in the formation process professional which corresponds to two subsystems of the system of professional training:

  1. basic or initial Professional training

  2. Continuing professional education or training
