Prodrive F1 TEAM

Prodrive F1 TEAM is a British stable of Formule 1 which was to begin in competition at the time of the Championnat of the world of Formula 1 2008. It is about an emanation of the company Prodrive (known in particular for its implication in WRC with Subaru and in endurance with Aston Martin) founded and directed by David Richards.

History

The project Prodrive F1 is born in spring 2006, when the TRUSTED announces that a twelfth stable will be allowed to take part in the Championnat of the world of Formula 1 2008. Many structures and personalities of the automobile sport (Eddie Jordan, Craig Pollock, Paul Stoddart, Trevor Carlin, the Direxiv group represented by Jean Alesi) are put on the rows and present to the federation a candidates' file. April 28th, 2006, TRUSTED it advertisement which the right of access is granted to Prodrive, whose file appears most solid.

Quickly, the specialized press gives a report on a bringing together between Prodrive and the stable McLaren - Mercedes. David Richards indeed never hid that it did not hope to make of Prodrive F1 a manufacturer with whole share, but only one stable " cliente" , i.e. engaging of the single-seaters designed by another manufacturer. Such a practice is then officially prohibited (even if the stables Super Aguri and Toro Rosso use it in a more or less diverted way) but an awaited reform of the Agreements Harmonies (agreements which govern the commercial structure of F1) must return it sells by auction as from 2008. In 2007, while contradicting the signature of the least agreement, the leaders of Prodrive and McLaren confirm to carry out negotiations. An agreement between the two structures must lead Prodrive to become the stable " B" of McLaren, i.e. to engage a McLaren frame of the previous year and to make run of the pilots related to the stable germano-British (the names of Gary Paffett, Pedro of Rosa but also Bruno Spengler or Alexander Wurz are then often advanced).

In the middle of the year 2007, the multiple carryforwards by Prodrive of the official announcement of its future projects start to throw a shade on the possibility of seeing it to begin at the beginning of 2008 as envisaged. The media speak about a difficulty for the stable of finalizing its budget, but it appears especially that the reform of the Agreements Agrees, indispensable condition upon the engagement by Prodrive of frame McLaren, sorrow to be carried out, several stables (most vehement being Williams, which will go until threatening Prodrive of legal proceedings) refusing to authorize the use of frame customers. In October 2007, the future of Prodrive F1 darkens a little more with the advertisement by McLaren which the talks with Prodrive are broken. At the end of November 2007, the legal imbroglio around the right of participation of the stables customer still not being solved, Prodrive announces to give up its engagement in the championship of the world of F1 2008, specifying to keep hope to make its entry in the disicpline in 2009.
