Prodicos de Céos (in Greek old Πρόδικος/ Prodikos ) was born with Ioulis, in the Greek island of Céos, towards 460 av J. - C. and died after 399 av J. - C.
It was several times ambassador in Athens, and gave to it conferences which were worth notoriety and richness to him. It was a presocratic Philosophe Greek sophist, but also a semantician. It attempted to define the direction of the words and to distinguish from the words which seemed to be Synonyme S; it was made a speciality of the words and study of the synonyms, which was worth to him the consideration of Socrate, which seems to save it of its irony with regard to the Sophists. Known especially as professor of morals and style, Sophiste, even if he had studied physics; he taught in particular with Thucydide and Euripide.
Prodicos passes to have taught in Socrate; its lessons were worth expensive (of 2 Obole S to 50 Drachme S). It is known that Socrate, for example, paid 2 mites.
