Proclamation of the hacker

The Conscience off has Hacker (or The Hacker Manifesto , in French the Proclamation of Hacker ) is a small test written the January 8th 1986 by a Hacker known under the Pseudonyme of " The Mentor" (born Loyd Blankenship). He was written after the arrest of his author, and was published for the first time in the electronic magazine underground Phrack (Volume 1, Numéro 7, Phile 3 of 10). Nowadays, one can find it on many Web sites.

He is regarded as the angular stone of the Culture hacker, and gives an outline of the Psychologie first hackers . the Proclamation affirms that the hackers choose this activity because it is a means for them of learning, and because of the frequent feeling of frustration caused by their trouble at the school. It expresses also the awakening of a hacker carrying out its potential in the field of the computers.

To date, the Manifeste is a policy for the hackers throughout the world, particularly for those which are new in this field. It is used as ethical foundation for the hacking , and affirms that there is an objective which supplants the egoistic desire to exploit or cause wrong to the others (what does the hackers Black hat S), and that technology should be used to extend our horizons and to try to maintain the free knowledge in the world.

This article is quoted in the film of 1995 Hackers , although in film it is read in a specimen of the magazine hacker 2600 , and not of Phrack (which would have been historically more exact). It is also reproduced in the CD box of the play for computer Uplink .

“The Mentor” read out sound Manifeste of Hacker and made additional developments with the conference H2K2.

There exists also has Hacker Manifesto , published in eight languages, works on the release of information by the specialist in the media Kenneth McKenzie Wark. The original edition appeared with the editions Harvard University Close, in 2004; the French-speaking edition under the title a proclamation hacker appeared with the editions criticalsecret, in 2006.
