Proclamation of the five
The Manifeste of the five is a proclamation published in Le Figaro the August 18th 1887 following the publication of the novel of Emile Zola, the Earth .
It is appeared as an open letter to Emile Zola and is signed of five young writers close to the Grenier of Edmond de Goncourt: Paul Bonnetain, J. - H. Rosny, Lucien Descaves, Paul Margueritte and Gustave Guiches. They constitute what have calls the third generation of the naturalists.
The proclamation, if he recognizes the talent of Emile Zola, reproaches him for being lost in the vulgar one, for missing the serious one and for being repeated with a mercantile aim, tarnishing its work.
