Proclamation of Amador Bueno

The proclamation of Amador Bueno was held with São Paulo in 1641, and is regarded as the first demonstration of character Régionaliste of the Colony by the historiographers of the History of Brazil.

In 1640, by a War of Restoration, the Portugal is released from the domination of the Spain. But, during the union of Portugal in Spain, the inhabitants of São Paulo found a source of richnesses in smuggling with the area of the Río of Plata and in the sale of Indians whom they were going to capture in the Missions Jesuits basin of the Rio Paraná, which caused conflicts between the Bandeirante S paulists and the Jésuites.

With the Portuguese Restoration, the tradesmen paulists craignèrent that Portugal does not ruin this source of revenue, preventing smuggling and prohibiting the traffic of Indiens because, at the time of all the former problems opposing the colonists to the Jésuites, the Portuguese government had always placed as regards Father.

The movement

The movement in him even was reduced to a demonstration of tradesmen paulists concerned about not see their disturbed businesses with Buenos Aires. They decided to create in São Paulo an independent kingdom and proclaimed king the fazendeiro (land big landowner) Amador Bueno da Ribeira - richest living place.

Amador Bueno refused the offer and the Jura fidelity with the new king of Portugal. A few days later, all Paulistes followed its example and the action of the tradesmen ended, not having any serious consequence because São Paulo was an isolated region and did not have the means of continuing arm wrestling with Portugal. This historical episode warned however of the dissatisfaction with certain colonists towards the Portuguese domination.
