A private joke (Anglicisme meaning “deprived joke literally”, although the anglophone speak more readily about for inside joke ) - sometimes shortened by the Sigle PJ in the slang Internet - or humor in complicity , is a joke made to be included/understood only by one restricted group of initiates:

  • either because it calls upon knowledge specific to a field (a Discipline, a profession, a Culture, a foreign Langue, etc),
  • or because it refers in an evasive way to last events that only the members of the circle aimed can know, one speaks then, of language esoteric.

This type of humor is not only present in the conversations, but one also finds some in works, inserted by their authors.

For a humorous functionality hidden in a Software , one speaks rather about “ Easter egg ”.

Examples of private jokes

In the scientific field

Heisenberg was made one day stop for excess speed. The police officer, frightened, shouts to him:
- But you are insane, do you know with which Speed you rolled?
And Heisenberg to answer:
- Not, but I know very well where I am.

This history is funny, because Heisenberg is at the origin of the Principe of uncertainty, fundamental law of the Quantum physics which stipulates that since one knows with a high degree of accuracy the speed of a particle, one cannot more have accurate informations on its position, and defect and poured. The knowledge of the one of this information excludes knowledge from the other.

In Data-processing

The world is divided into 10 categories: those which can count into binary, and those which do not know.

It is necessary, to include/understand at which point this history is amusing, of knowing that “10” is worth actually “2” if one places in the binary Numbering system

A truth geek , it is that which believes that in one kilometer, there is: 1024 meters.

A Geek one is impassioned, in fact of data processing. Indeed, a Kiloctet represents: 1024 Byte S (2^10), while one kilometer represents: 1000 Meter S.
