Prisoner of opinion

The concept of captive of opinion was developed by Amnesty International and has since fact flora.

Definition

Is considered as prisoner of opinion any person held or restricted in her freedom because of its political or religious convictions or for any other reason of conscience, its ethnic origin, its sex or its sexual orientation, its color, its language, its social origin or its nationality, its economic situation, its birth or any other situation - and which did not use of violence nor not encouraged to violence or hatred .

Amnesty International requires the immediate liberation and unconditional of all the prisoners of opinion. It was historically the first goal which this organization gave itself.

Some prisoners of opinion

  • Aung San Suu Kyi: Nobel Prize of the Burmese peace , retained since the September 24th 2007 with the prison of Insein with Yangon to have fought in favor of the Democracy in its country;
  • Dhabihullah Mahrami : citizen Iran IEN of confession bahaïe, held in prison for Apostasy, and deceased in its cell;
  • Mordechai Vanunu : nuclear technician and militant Israeli, considered and condemned in its country for “treason of secrecy of State” after having revealed the existence of the central of Dimona being used with the production as nuclear weapons.
