The prison of Health , or more simply the prison of Health or Health , are a Prison Paris ienne located in a residential district of the 14 {{E}} district.

Buildings

It was built in 1867 by the architect Emile Vaudremer.

Of trapezoidal form , it is framed:

• in north by the Boulevard Arago,
• in the west by the Street Messier,
• in the south by the Rue Jean Pares,
• in the east by the Rue of Health.

One of the characteristics of Health today is, that until the year 2000, the prisoners were divided by ethnic geographic origin and inside the prison. Part of the prisoners (those who continue studies in particular) are gathered in the sections, but the majority of them are disseminated in blocks, which are four:

• Bloc has : Western Europe;
• Block B : Black Africa;
• Block C : the Maghreb;
• Block D : rest of the world.

From now on, only the blocks has and D continue to function, the two others having been closed at the beginning of year in preparation for a restoration of width.

The prison of Health is, nowadays, the last prison intramurally of Paris. The other important prisons (all confused categories) dependant on Paris are with Poissy, with Fleury-Mérogis, Fresnes and Melun.

District “VIP” of Health

The imprisonment of the “personalities” condemned is also one of specificities of the prison of Health. Thus it accommodated in its walls of many personalities which carried out their sorrows there.

The capital punishment with Health

In 1899, following the closing and with the demolition of the deposit of condemned known as of " the Large Rocket " (or more simply Roquette"), the condemned men (i.e. judged prisoners already ) are imprisoned with Health while waiting for their transfer to the Bagne of Guyana or their capital execution.

The executions being done before at the entry of the Large Rocket, one decided to make in the same way (or almost) with Health. The Guillotine from now on was drawn up with the angle of the street of Health and the Arago boulevard, on the pavement. The first execution - and first in Paris since ten years - took place the August 6th 1909; it was that of a Parricide named Duchemin.

Close to forty condemned their days in this place finished. It was also at this place that the penultimate public execution in France took place, that of the burglar and double assassin Bloch, the June 2nd 1939. Fifteen days later, the June 17th, one guillotinait Eugen Weidmann, culprit of six assassinations, in front of the prison of Versailles, and the June 24th, decision was taken to prohibit the public executions. The same decision made as condemned to death depending on the Court of Appeal of the the Seine (that is to say the Seine-et-Oise and the Aube) were to undergo the setting with dead with Health.

The March 15th 1940, the Vocoret brothers, who cut down three Policier S with Issy-les-Moulineaux, are the first guillotines inside the prison.

During the Occupation, in addition to criminals of common Right, one also practiced there the executions of eighteen resistant and communist. Last nines of them, carried out between August 1941 and July 1942, were decapitated. The nine others were shot the April 30th 1944. A plate, affixed on the wall of the prison to the angle of the streets Jean Pare and of Health, their fine tragedy recalls.

After the Libération, only of common law criminal were carried out in the main courtyard of the prison of Health (besides several terrorist militants of FLN between 1958 and 1960). One can quote Marcel Petiot, in 1946, the marquis Bernardy de Sigoyer in 1947, Emile Buisson (“the public enemy n°1”) in 1956, Jacques Fesch in 1957, Georges Rapin, known as “Mr Bill” in 1960.

The last condemned to dead guillotines with Health are Roger Bontems and Claude Buffet. They were the authors of an escape bid with catch from Otage S which finishes by the death of the two hostages, in 1971. Condemned to died to Troyes the June 29th 1972, they were carried out the November 28th according to.

After them, condemned to dead one franciliens were locked up with the prison of Fresnes, but none was carried out.

However, when it was not useful, it is with the prison of Health that the Guillotine was stored.

Good health

Opposite the exit of the prison, existed a coffee, named With the good health . The close relations of the prisoners found themselves there, as well as the released prisoners. Scenes of several films occur there and were turned there. Establishment at summer closed in the Years 1980. Currently the room is used for the prison authorities.
