Prison of Fleury-Mérogis

The prison of Fleury-Mérogis is a Prison located in the southern suburbs of Paris, on the common of Fleury-Mérogis.

Presentation

The penitentiary complex of Fleury-mérogis was built between 1964 and 1968, include/understand:

  • a prison for men
  • a prison for women
  • a prison for young prisoners
  • a barracks of gendarmerie and residences of the personnel.

The project, conceived by the architect Guillaume Waistcoat, takes the shape of a polygonal central building from where 5 blocks (or three-bladed) of detention radiate themselves composed of 3 wings of four levels and another polygonal building sheltering the technical installations and the workshops surrounding the unit. Each three-bladed can accommodate between 700 and 900 prisoners. The center counts officially 3110 places.

With the Prison of Fresnes and the Prison of Health, it is one of the three principal penal establishments of the Paris region, and the greatest center pénitenciaire of Europe. The Center for Young Prisoner and the Center for Woman are with share of the unit but attached administratively to the Penitentiary.

Famous prisoners

Among the prisoners, in Detention pending trial or condemned to more or less long or recurring sorrows:

  • Christine Deviers-Joncour: provisional imprisonments for five months in 1997

  • Antonio Ferrara: currently imprisoned
  • Alexis Corbière: decree in June 1995
  • Marcus Hornec: currently imprisoned
  • Joelle Aubron: of 1989 with 1999
  • Zouzou (actress): two short passages in 1992 and 1994
  • Sinik, were condemned 4 times has firm custodial sentences for a one year total. Certain pieces, such as for example D3.32, were written at the time of these stays.
  • Nathalie Gettliffe: condemned to Canada for the removal of his/her child, repatriated in France to purge the remainder of its sorrow, December 2006 at January 2007 for fines
