Principle of Torricelli
The Principe of Torricelli is the statement produced in 1644 by Evangelista Torricelli of the kinetic energy of a material point in a Puits of potential: a particle released without initial speed in the well will see its Speed increasing like v ² /2 = 2 g.h, H being the drop height.
Obviously, it cannot go up higher than its starting altitude, but Torricelli adds that it cannot go up either low! Because of the temporal inversion (T-T).
This principle of Torricelli, put in the hands of the young person Christiaan Huygens, will enable him to answer the question of the made up heavy Pendule, without having neither differential equation, nor Basic principle of Dynamics (this is particularly well studied in the work of Ernst Mach: mechanics). Of course, Huygens will also answer the question which the Mersenne Father had asked him whereas it was only 17 years old: to find the center of percussion of a sword?
When Leibniz publishes in 1684 the Théorème of the lifeblood , it is seen that the past half-century will have made it possible to obtain a more general expression, but which it will be difficult to discuss the questions of anteriority.
