The Principality of Reuss, connects junior or principality of Reuss-Schleiz (in German Fürstentum Reuß jüngere Linie ) was one of the twenty-five States of the German Empire.
This principality covered 827 km ² for a population of 145.000 inhabitants (1905). Since the extinction of the branch Reuss de Gera, it had in common the seigniory of Gera with the principality of Reuss, connects elder. Its capital was Schleiz.
It had as borders the Saxony-Meiningen, the Saxony-Altenbourg, the Saxony-Weimar and the Royaume of Saxony (Voigtland).
The branch junior, the counts Reuss de Schleiz de Koestritz (in German Reuß zu Schleiz zu Köstritz ), was high with princely dignity in 1806 and carried the title since then of prince Reuss, connects junior ( Jungere Linie , abbrégé in J.L. ), prince Reuss de Schleiz or prince Reuss de Koestritz .
The members of this branch were called all Henri, and were numbered in a chronological way per century, i.e. the first Henri to be born in the century received number 1, until the century following to start again to 1, so that the numbers of the fathers and wire did not follow themselves: for example, the wire of Henri LXVII Reuss-Schleiz were, in the order, Henri V, Henri VIII, Henri XI, Henri XIV, and Henri XVI.
The chief of the elder branch, Henri XXIV (1878-1927), having been recognized unable to reign, the regency of the principality of Reuss connects elder was ensured by the branch junior as from 1902.
After the fall of the German Empire, it was joined together with the Principauté of Reuss connects elder to form the Republic of Reuss ( Volksstaat Reuß ), which was incorporated in new the Land of Thuringe in 1920.
