Principality of Lunebourg
The principality of Lunebourg was a subdivision of the duchy of Brunswick-Lunebourg in the Saint Germanic Roman Empire. It existed of 1267 with 1705. Become Lunebourg with the XIVe century, the capital of the principality was That. Besides one knows it under the name of Brunswick-That or Lunebourg-That .
History
The principality of Lunebourg appeared when the duchy of Brunswick-Lunebourg was divided into 1267, when the duke John forced his older brother, the duke Albert to divide the duchy with him. The last male-line descending from John died inside 1369, and a war of succession burst between the dukes of Saxony and Wolfenbüttel the line of the dukes of Brunswick-Lunebourg.
Lüneburg was briefly under the order of the dukes of Saxony, but it finally fell in Wolfenbüttel inside 1388. In 1582, Lüneburg half inherited County of Hoya, and inside 1585, County of Diepholz. In 1633, it inherited the principality of Grubenhagen, and inside 1689, Duché of Lauenburg. In 1705, the principality of Lüneburg was inherited by Principauté Calenberg and was remained in a permanent way united with him through personal Union.
