A prince-abbot is the superior of an abbey whose possessions form a Principauté.
Presentation
It combines the title of Abbé and that of prince to show a spiritual authority as well as temporal. Its armorial bearings comprise like support a sword, signs of its temporal power. The prince-abbots were mainly in the territory of the Saint Germanic Roman Empire, area where also prince-bishops were.
