Primus is a group of Rock of the area of San Francisco. Separated in 2000, the formation knew its apogee in the Années 1990. This Power trio with the conventional paces leaves a great place to low of Claypool, which generally plays in Slap. The music of Primus sails between the heavy metal, the Rock psychedelic and the Funk, with notable influences Jazz in the musical structures. History

1986: The group is created with El Sobrante in California on the initiative of Todd Huth with Claypool and Jay Lane. At the origin, it was to be called Primate . But, because of a homonymous group, the name was changed into Primus (which wants to say " the premier" in Latin).

1988-89: Tim Alexander then Larry LaLonde arrive in the group.

The first album of Primus, Suck one This , is a live left in 1989 on the label Claypool: Prawn Song (the name of the label parodies that of Led Zeppelin: Swan Song ).

They quickly acquired an important notoriety in their birthplace of Berkeley and left their first album studio on Caroline Records, Frizzle Fry , one year later.

Primus was made known after the exit of Sailing the Seas off Cheese on the Interscope label in 1991. " Tommy The Cat" (with Tom Waits) rather often passes on the waves.

1992: Miscellaneous Remains .

Thereafter, in 1993, the album Pork Soda rises directly in the 7th place of the classification Billboard and Primus belongs to the head of poster of the Lollapalooza Tour later in the year.

1994 mark the exit of Riddles Are Abound Tonight (under the name of Sausage ), with a return to the original musicians of Primus (Claypool, Huth and Lane). Primus takes part in the 25th birthday of the Festival of Woodstock.

Bruise From The Punchbowl , left in 1995, allowed the group to touch many people thanks to the Grammy Award obtained with " Wynona' S Big Brown Beaver". On this occasion, the group records a clip which had a great impact and generated a polemic with the actress Winona Ryder.

Alexander leaves the group in 1996 because of musical divergences. It is replaced by Brian Mantia of Praxis and Buckethead after Claypool played with him in a round for one of its albums solos Claypool and the Holy Mackerel . For the anecdote, Mantia had been auditioned by Claypool for the place of beater before working with Alexander; he had refused this one because of a wound to the foot.

Brown Album leaves in 1997. It differs from preceding creations of Primus by a production dries rougher and of the songs having a linear structure. It is interesting to note that Tom Waits quoted it like her preferred album of Primus, whereas certain fans hated it. Its title is a wink with the " Black Album " of Metallica.

Rhinoplasty leaves in 1998.

In 1999, Antipop arrives in the vats. Many musicians external with the group take part in it, such as Tom Morello (guitarist of Rage Against the Machine), Matt Stone (one of the two creators of South Park), Fred Durst (frontman of Limp Bizkit), James Hetfield (singer guitarist of Metallica) and Tom Waits. Many fans estimate that with Antipop , Primus tried to touch more many people. The album meets a mitigated success and, in 2000, Primus separates.

With the end of the year 2003, Claypool joined together the line-up " classique" of Primus (Tim Alexander with the battery and the guitarist Larry LaLonde) for enregister a EP of new titles and to propose a DVD which compiles all their vidéos: Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People . They made a 2 months round ( Tour of cheese ) during which the show was separate into two: the first part consisted in taking again the album Sailing The Seas Of Cheese in its entirety.

During the year 2004, they continue their round by playing this time the integrality of Frizzle Fry . The second part of the round was immortalisée in the DVD Hallucino Genetics Tour .

In 2006, Claypool decides to leave a new album solo, entitled Of Whales and Woe , on which the song is titrates humorous emission Robot Chicken . A best-of ( They Can' T All Be Zingers ) and a documentary DVD ( It Blame One The Fish ) on the round Tour of cheese left in at the end of 2006.

Insistent rumors evoke the possibility of an album for 2007, which would be recorded with Alexander with the battery.
