Primelephas
The kind Primelephas contains the first elephant in the evolutionary line which led to the true elephants among which one counts the current Mammouth S and elephants. The name “Primelephas” means “the first elephant”. Today, one knows one kind of this name, Primelephas gomphoteroides (which resembles Gomphotherium ).
By its appearance Primelephas resembled the current elephants already much, but it carried defenses to the jaw lower as than higher. Its molars had already the typical structure in plates of the true elephants. Its horn was already very long.
Primelephas lived in the dense forests of Europe and had the size of the current elephants of forest.
