Prime Ministers of Lithuania

The Prime Minister of Lithuania is with the head of the executive and is chosen by the Lithuanian Parliament (called Seimas ). Following the independence of Lithuania, a post of “president of the Council of Ministers” was established in 1990 before taking the title of Prime Minister the November 25th 1992. The constitutional transition related to the fall from the Soviet Union was managed by a great coalition from all the parties supporting independence called Sąjūdis (Unit).

Historically, the title of Prime Minister was also used between the end of monarchy in 1918 and the annexation by the USSR in 1940.
