Prime Minister of the Popular republic of China
The Prime Minister (Chinese: 总理 pinyin: zŏnglĭ) of the Popular republic of China, also called First , is the president of the Council of State and the chief of the government. He is elected by the National People's Assembly at the same time as the president. In practice the president and the Prime Minister are selected after negotiations with high level within the Chinese Communist party. The Prime Minister is in general member of the Standing Committee of Politburo and often the number three in the hierarchy of the party.
The Prime Minister is responsible for the management of the Chinese civil bureaucracy. He does not have any authority on the armed forces.
List Prime Ministers
- Zhou Enlai - (October 1st, 1949 - January 8th, 1976). He became Prime Minister with the establishment of the Popular republic of China in 1949, and remained it until its death.

Hooted Guofeng - (February 4th, 1976 - September 10th, 1980). He became Prime Minister following the death of Zhou Enlai in January 1976.

Zhao Ziyang - (September 10th, 1980 - November 24th, 1987).

Li Peng - (1987 - March 17th, 1998). It was named Prime Minister by interim in November 1987 and was confirmed in April 1988. There remained Prime Minister until 1998, date on which he was named with the head of the National Assembly.

Zhu Rongji - (March 17th, 1998 - March 16th, 2003). It was named Prime Minister by President Jiang Zemin and was confirmed by the ninth National Assembly.
