Francesco Primaticcio , known as Primatice (Bologna, 1504 - Paris, 1570) is a painter, Architecte and Sculpteur Italy N. He is the pupil of Giulio Romano, before coming in France to work with the service of François I {{er}} in 1532 where he is one of the Masters of the first École of Fontainebleau. Brilliant creator with the multiple talents, Primatice devotes the essence of his life to serve by his work France and his kings, of François Ier to Charles IX (dynasty of the Valois).
Primatice leaves at 22 years for Mantoue, the city of Frederic II of Gonzague. It becomes there the assistant of Giulio Romano, one of the most powerful heirs to Raphaël. In 1532, Primatice arrives like substitute of Guilio Romano at François Ier, to whom it introduces to the models of his Master for Hanging of Scipion the African. The king of France then sends Primatice to Brussels to supervise the transcription of these small employers on a final scale. The destiny of the painter bolognais is consequently related to that of the Valois last.
It finds at the court of France another Italian, Rosso Fiorentino, arrived in 1530 on the recommendation of Arétin. Fontainebleau is then an artistic center in full effervescence. Under the direction of the Florentin, a vast team of artists works with the decoration of the gallery François Ier, while Primatice is in load of that of the royal apartments. The sudden death of Rosso in 1540 leaves the free field for thirty years with Primatice.
Primatice is one of the uncontested Masters of the School of Fontainebleau, the first to put in scene the Court. He imagines festivals and masquerades, multiplies the interior decorations (the Low Gallery, the Apartment of the Baths, the room of the duchess of Stamps, the cabinet of the king, etc) but also in the garden of the Château of Fontainebleau (house of Pomone, fountain of Hercules, cave of the Pines).
The building site of the gallery of Ulysses opens in the Années 1540 and continues beyond the death of its originator, in 1570. During regular stays in Italy, it makes come from ancient works or their mouldings and imports the last inventions of the Italian Maniérisme. Under the reign of Henri II, the achievements multiply in the field of the funerary sculpture (tomb of the Own way, ballot box of the heart of François Ier…) ; in Fontainebleau, it directs Nicolò LED' Abate, in the decoration of the Ballroom. Named Superintendent of the buildings, it devotes mainly its last years to the monument of Henri II and the rotunda of Valois with Saint-Denis.
Painter of the king, at the same time draftsman, sculptor, architect, Primatice makes evolve/move art by introducing in France refinement and the Italian mannerism, heroism epic (in permanent reference to mythology, gods and hero) thus creating a personal style, a style primatician, whose influence will gain all the Europe.
