The Prim' Holstein is a French Race Bovin E .
Origin
Prim' Holstein is a race come from the north of the Europe, Frise with the Jutland. The black and white cows black are already known at the 16th century. As from the 18th century, they are the subject of crossing in order to improve the dairy production, the butyreux rate (quantity of fat contents) and the conservation of milk. The race then bears the name of “Dutchwoman”. At the 19th century, the race is spread quickly in North America where it bears the name of " Holstein Friesian". She arrives in France at the beginning of the 20th century and is an immediate success. She is initially called " black and white Dutchwoman noire" and a Herd-book as of 1922 will have. After the second world war the objectives of the race evolve/move to obtain animals mixed, i.e. that a balance between production of milk and meat is required. This orientation that is also adopted in the cradle of the race, the similarities between animals encourage to rename in 1952 French race the “Friesian black magpie”. In the Years 1970 - 1980, many animals " Holstein friesian" and of the seed resulting from the American breedings north are introduced in France. This origin has animals generally dairy and better formed because of a nonmixed selection of Friesian of America. The introduction more and more of reproducers resulting from the American Holstein population into the French breedings of black and white Friesian Frenchwoman black will modify the characteristics of the race. In 1990, the race is famous “Prim' Holstein”. It is the most widespread Vache dairy in France. In this country, it is present in all the national territory, but more especially in the great dairy zones, like the Normandy, the Brittany, the Northern .
Characteristics
It wears a black and white dress black, with white and black spots delimited well. One can exceptionally find subjects black and white red (one speaks then about Red holstein). The mucous membranes are clear and the horns while growing short, when they were conservées.It is a cow of big size: the height with the garrot is on average of 1,43 at the females and 1,65 m at the males and the average weight respectively of 700 kg and 1.100 kg.
Aptitudes
It is the French dairy race. The production reaches 9.100 kg by lactation on average and can exceed 11.000 kg, with a butyreux rate of 4,07% and one protein rate of 3,33%. Its success is due to its rapid growth and its great adaptability with the intensive breeding. (good conformation of udder and great effectiveness of rich transformation of fodder). It only ensures it 80% of the national milk collection intended for the milk industry: yoghourts, milk out of bottle… On the other hand, one often prefers to him other races for making of cheeses of character. It is adapted little to the manufacture of cheese from the composition of its milk. The cull cows on the other hand are little sought by butchery and feed mainly the market of large distribution. A good part of the herd is carried out in crossing with races bouchères, solution permitted by a easy Vêlage. The calves are developed thus better thanks to a good conformation of carcass.
