The Prêtres of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Bétharram form a founded Congrégation religious in 1832 with Betharram, a few kilometres from Lourdes, by Saint Michel Garicoïts (1797 Ibarre Yrénées-Atlantiques - 1863 Bétharram), of poor family, ordered priest in 1823.

Superior of the seminar of Bétharram, in the diocese of Bayonne, it founded this congregation at the beginning to help it in the evangelization of the pilgrims coming to the sanctuary marial from Betharram, then, more largely, for pastoral activities in the parishes, for teaching (it created colleges in Argentina, in Uruguay.) and missions.

This congregation essaimé in small units of 3 or 4 people, in 13 country, of which Italy, Spain, England, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Africa, Ground-Holy, Thailand and India. One estimates his members at 350 (more 100 laic associated).
