Price of youth

History

The Price of youth is an event created in 1982 within the framework of the Cannes festival by the Ministry for youth on an idea of Frederic Mitterrand.

The goal is then to make take part young people in a festival recognized like most important of the world, in order to exert their critical glance there and to make known their tastes and their choices.

Five young ages from eighteen to twenty-five years, selected by the means of a national competition organized by the Regional centres of information youth, form each year the " then; Jury-jeunes" , invited to see and judge the first and second achievements presented in the parallel sections of the Cannes festival and in the section a Certain Glance.

In 1989, the number of members of the Jury-youths passes from five to seven, including a young person of the European Union.

In 1993, the Price of youth is recognized official partner of the Cannes festival.

In 2001, the Price of youth celebrates its twentieth edition.

In 2003, creation of the young prices Glances for the parallel sections About fifteen the realizers and the Week of criticism.

Godfathers and godmothers

Since 1993, each Jury-youths is sponsored by a personality of the cinema world.

The Prize list

From 1982 to 2002, the Price of youth is allotted in two category: French film and foreign film, among the first and second feature-length films of the realizers introduced in the parallel sections: the Week of criticism, About fifteen the Perspective realizers and of the French Cinema (become Cinemas in France in 1992 then integrated in 1999 in About fifteen the realizers) and in the section a Certain Glance of the official Selection. In 2003 and 2004, the Prize of youth is awarded to only one film, French or foreigner, among the first, second and third feature-length films presented within the official Selection of the Cannes festival. As from 2005, the Prize of youth is awarded to only one film, French or foreigner, among the first and second feature-length films presented within the official Selection of the Cannes festival.
