Prestant
The prestant is the name of a play of Orgue S with pipes.
Its name comes from Latin præstans, præstantis , takes part present of præstare “to be distinguished, excel, be in front”. One finds of them the direction in the French word " prestance". This name suggests a direction similar to that given to the watch (of which one " montre" pipes). It should besides be noted that in the Scandinavian organ (Holland, Denmark, Germany of north, the principal ones bear the name of Præstant.
Belonging to the family of the Principal , funds and plays with mouth, prestant it is a set of four feet (size of the pipe of the most serious note, the do1) whose central octave is used to grant all the other organ pipes. He thus plays the part of the tuning fork and it is the play which is harmonized with the most care since all the acoustic balance of the instrument depends on him.
One generally finds it in the French organ placed at the keyboard of Grand Organ and at the keyboard of Positif.
In traditional registration, it mixes as well with the principal ones, the bumblebees and the sheers. He adds even color and harmonics. It is in a play which reacts instantaneously to the attack and gives much presence in the mixtures. Drawn with the bumblebee from 8 it makes it possible to emphasize the left hand. Mixed with the trumpet or the cromorne, it makes it possible to compensate for their weakness in even harmonics.

In the exercises of training of the organ, one recommends to use prestant it as well for the work of the keyboard as for the exercises of pedal because it is the play which makes best hear the notes in all its tessiture.
