Preslav and Véliki Preslav (Bulgarian: Преслав and ВеликиПреслав) were the second capital of the First Bulgarian Empire of 893 with 972. The ruins of the old capital are located at 20 km in the south-west of the town of Shumen, and currently constitute a National Archaeological Reserve. In Véliki Preslav, the disciples of St Cyrille (perhaps Clement d' Ohrid and Constantin de Preslav) have creates the second Slavic alphabet by giving him the “Cyrillic” name in homage of their Master.
