The presidential election turkmene of 2007 took place with the Turkménistan the February 11th 2007. It makes following the death of the president Saparmyrat Nyýazow, occurred on December 21st, 2006.

The Council of the People modified the Constitution to allow the president by interim Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow to take part in this election. It is the latter which carried it with 89,23% of the votes.

Candidates

The Council of the People chose six candidates who were then approved by the central electoral commission:
  • Amanýaz Atajykow, deputy, former vice-governor of the province of Daşoguz;
  • Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedow, president by interim;
  • Orazmyrat Garajaýew, mayor of Abadan;
  • Muhammetnazar Gurbanow, chief of the district of Garabekewul;
  • Işanguly Nuryýew, vice-minister of the Natural resource and gas and oil Industry;
  • Aşyrnyýaz Pomanow, mayor of Türkmenbaşy.
