In the majority of the Republic S, a presidential election is organized at definite periodicity. It consists in indicating that which will occupy the function of Head of State for this period given.

Terms of the office

The term of the office varies from a country to another: 4 years with the the United States, 5 in France, 6 with the Mexico, 7 in Italy.

Ways of voting

There exist two principal ways of voting:

• the indirect election, which is of setting in the majority of the parliamentary democracies, either by the Parliament, or by a system of Great Electors, as in the presidential regime with the the United States, where they are delegates designated by the universal direct suffrage who elect the president. These delegates have a weight proportional to their representation. In the majority of the States étatsuniens (48), the candidate made at the head gains the whole of the Great Electors there, which explains why a candidate can be elected with a minority of voice.
• the Vote for all direct, where each major citizen is also presidential voter.

In certain countries where the presidential function is purely honorary, in Israel for example, it is the Prime Minister who is elected by the direct suffrage.
