The President of India is the Head of the State and the first Indian citizen as well as the supreme commander of the Indian Armed forces. He is elected by the indirect suffrage for one five years duration by a special electoral college. The role of the president is primarily representative, the executive power being spring of the Cabinet which directs the Prime Minister. The capacities of the Indian President are comparable with those of the monarch of the the United Kingdom.
