Presentations of the face and the bregma

At the time of a Childbirth, the face and the bregma are presentations of the fetal head at the entry of the maternal basin with a variable inflection:

  • little bent for a bregma
  • right (“military” attitude) for a face

The success of the childbirth by the natural ways is in fact dependant on this inflection, which can vary during work:

  • If the fetal head manages to bend and adopt then the position bregma , even the position top badly bent , the normal childbirth is possible provided that the newborn is not too large.
  • If the fetal head does not manage to be bent, it remains in position of the face and the Césarienne is obligatory, with the risk to lead to a Enclavement of the presentation.
