Presentation with the Temple
The Présentation with the temple is reported in the Évangile according to Luc (LLC 2,22s).
The parents of Jesus achieve the Rite religious Jewish of Rachat of first-born the according to which the boys first-born were to be “repurchased”, at the eight days age, by an animal sacrifice (Nb, 18,15) because they were regarded as pertaining to God (Ex 13:2 - 12).
The account brings back the canticle of thanksgiving of Syméon (the Nunc dimittis ) and its prophecy on Jesus and Marie:
- “Here, this child is intended to bring the fall and the raising of several in Israel, and with becoming a sign which will cause contradiction, and with yourself a sword will transpierce you the heart” (LLC, 2:34 - 35).
