Prenanthes
The botanical kind Prenanthes (francized in prénanthe ) gathers some species of plants, for the majority natives in North America, in particular with the the United States, except for Prenanthes purpurea (Prénanthe crimson), European species. These plants belong to the family of the Astéracées (or Made up) and are very close to the lettuces (kind Lactuca ).
Characteristics of the kind
The Greek word prenanthes means leaning flowers , evoking the flowerheads of the plant, located at the end of rather long pedicels inclined downwards. In the United States, the majority of the species are called rattlesnakeroots , name made up of root (root) and rattlesnake (Crotale). It is estimated indeed that the roots of the plant would make it possible to look after the bites of Serpent S poisonous.
The kind gathers plants with latexes, with the flowerheads tilted grouped in bunches or panicles (bunches of bunches). The flowerheads are small, comprising few florets (five generally), ligulas and with five teeth, of color going of the white to purple and with the crimson. The tubes gathering the style and cheesecloths are protuberant, lengthily projecting compared to the flowers. As for all composed, the fruits are akenes.
