Premiata Forneria Marconi

Premiata Forneria Marconi (commonly called PFM ) is a group Italian Rock (progressive Rock) whose beginnings go up with 1972 with the album Storia di a minuto . One of the leaders of the progressive movement of the years '70, PFM is also Italian the rock'n'roll group which was greatest success abroad, in particular in England, in the United States, in Japan and Canada.

At the beginning of the progressive rock'n'roll, the Italy knew to just like invent an undercurrent which is clean for him, were to it the Scène Canterbury in England, the Zeuhl in France or the Krautrock in Germany. The major groups of this movement are: Locanda Delle Fate, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, the Elm, New Trolls, Metamorphosi, It Balletto di Bronzo

PFM is registered directly in this artistic current, but while adding to it of the various influences, in particular of certain English progressive groups. In this respect, one said of their music that it took as a starting point the King Crimson beginnings or by Genesis, but PFM has as of the whole beginnings quickly transcended its influences and developed its own style. A certain Mediterranean sensitivity distinguishes PFM from the majority of the progressive groups of the time.

The original formation is made up of Free Mussida (guitar and song), Franz di Cioccio (battery and song), Flavio Premoli (keyboards and song), Mauro Pagani (violin, flute and song), and Giorgio Piazza (low). In 1974, Piazza will yield its place to Patrick Djivas, ex-member of the formation of jazz-rock'n'roll Area . In 1975, Bernardo Lanzetti, Fragile ex-member of Acqua , joint with the formation as singer soloist, the group being in the search of a singer able to sing as well in English as in Italian. Tired voyages, Pagani leaves the group after Chocolate Kings , and will be replaced, the time of an album ( Jet Lag ), by Gregory Bloch. Then, Lucio Fabbri will become the violonist appointed of PFM on some albums and scene. Lanzetti will leave for its part after " Passpartu" , album from which the music of the formation will take a more popular turn.

The music of PFM can be described like very elaborate and sophisticated, lyric, delicate, elegant, with very required arrangements and often unforeseeable reversals, especially within the albums of the beginning. If the musicians of PFM show as of the whole beginnings a great technical control their instruments, they are also dissociated by the quality of their compositions, rates/rhythms and melodies sought, and lyric elements very successful. Traditional influences, jazz and rock'n'roll mix in an original, perfectly coherent whole and very successful, which will be the brand name of PFM within the progressive movement. The majority of the texts are sung in Italian, but a certain number of albums of the years '70 make exception and are sung in English.

Generally, the amateurs of PFM get along on the fact that the best albums of the formation are those of the beginning, until Chocolate Kings in 1975. Storia di a minuto , Per a amico , Photographs off ghosts , insulated It di Niente , The world became the world , Cook and Chocolate Kings , and rightly, is indeed regarded as the traditional ones of the progressive repertory. Made note, the albums Photographs off Ghosts and The world became the world are adaptations in English language, with more or less important alternatives compared to the original albums, of the albums Per Amico and insulated It di niente .

The formation moreover was pointed out by its services " live" energetic and of very high level, where virtuosity and improvisations are invariably with go. In this respect, the long instrumental part " Alta loma 5 till 9" , on the album live " Cook" , illustrates very well the tops which PFM in spectacle can reach.

The group separated after the publication from Miss Baker in 1987, but was reformed towards the end of the year '90. Ulisse is the first album born of the meeting. A certain number of albums live , generally very successful in addition, will appear thereafter: www.pfmpfm.it (it best) ; Live in Japan , and finally Piazza del Campo , on which Pagani joined the group the time of a spectacle. Serendipity , album studio plus rock'n'roll which does not achieve the unanimity within the amateurs of the group, and finally Dracula , a rock opera and perhaps best the opus of PFM since Chocolate Kings and Jet Lag , supplement the production of the group until 2005.

At the end of November 2006 left Stati di Immaginazione , a unit CD + DVD which contains 8 instrumental small film parts inspired.
