Preliminary round of the football world cup
The purpose of the tournament of qualification is to determine the participants in the Football world cup (32 teams are represented since 1998). This tournament of qualification is organized by confederation (there are six in the world). A drawing lot determines groups containing several teams which will clash in mini championship. CONMEBOL (confederation of South America) organizes a championship with all the countries of America of the south, without drawing lot in match outward journey and return.
The matches proceed two years before the final stage of the world cup.
Many qualificative places by continents
The following table shows the number of qualificative places allotted by the FIFA for each continent to each final stage. The places obtained for the matches of stoppings are noted 0,5. " T" = place for holding of the title. " H" = place for the country host of the World cup.
