The inductive head is one of the three types of play-back heads existing on the hard drives.
To carry out the functions of reading and writing, the system with inductive head is made up only of one electromagnet.
In reading mode
When a magnetic zone, thanks to the rotation of the disc, passes near the electromagnet, it is formed a Electric current in winding. This current is detected and makes it possible to know which are the information recorded on the disc.
In writing mode
The write head is known as “inductive”, i.e. it is able to generate a Magnetic field. It is in polarizing negatively or positively the surface of the disc that the head is able to register information there. Why positively or negatively? That comes owing to the fact that the hard drive stores only binary data, therefore these two states are enough. When the electromagnet is under tension, it produces a magnetic field which, by induction, creates on the disc a durable magnetic zone.
