Prefecture of Yamanashi

Yamanashi (山梨県, yamanashiken ) is a prefecture Japan located at the center of the Chūbu.

History

  • Of prehistory in XIVe century

The prefecture of Yamanashi corresponds to old the Province of Kai. The settlement of the area of Yamanashi goes back to approximately 30.000 years. Hunting and fishing preceded a phase by gathering which the culture of rice requires; then creation came from villages which formed the area. The Tumulus of Maruyama and Choshizuka were high starting from the end of IVe century. Of these burials, one can imagine that the Sone hill in Nakamichi-cho played a central role. In VIIIe Yamanashi century was called Kai No Kuni and included/understood, in addition to Yamanashi, the districts of Yatsuhiro, Koma and Tsuru; the activities were centered around the current cities of Kasugai, Ichinomiya and Misaka. Starting from XIIe century, the noble ones of the court started with ruer in the brancarts of the old mode and, little by little, became soldiers whose capacity was growing. About 1131, Kiyomitsu, wire of Yoshikiyo Minamoto, founded the clan Kai (Kaigenji).
  • Of XVe century at the XIXe century

The generations of Takeda, Ogasawara and Nanbu, all members of the Kai clan were very prosperous. Takeda, in XVIe century, became Daimyo us sums during the time of the States combatants and builds the field of Tsuzuji and the castle of Yogai with Kofu. It is from there that Takeda tried to control and to unify Japan. To its death, in 1582, Kai No kuni passed under the cut of Oda, of Toyotomi then of Tokugawa at the beginning of the Edo period. Under the crook of the Bakufu of Edo (military government), the clan Kofu (which was based in Kuni' naka) links itself with the Yamura clan (based in Gunnai) but in 1724 the area fell directly into the hands from the bakufu from Edo. With the development of the road of Koshu (Koshu Kaido) and transport on the Fuji river, the goods, the raw materials and the cultural products invaded the area. In the middle of the XIXe century, contradictions of the military government and clannish system caused an erosion of the central authority to which all the areas of the Archipelago opposed a sharp resistance. At the same time, the country was constrained to open, under the pressure of the United States and Europe, and to engage on the way of modernization.
  • Of XVe century at the XIXe century

After the entry of the government of Meiji in the castle of Kofu (1868), the area controlled by the kaifu became the department of Kai and, on November 20th, 1872, took the name of department of Yamanashi. (On November 20th is from now on the Day of the Citizens.) At the beginning of the period Meiji (1868-1911), and of the industrial development policy installation by Fujimura, the viticultural spinning mills and exploitations began their development. At the end of the Meiji period, the railway line Chuo was inaugurated, which contributed with the industrial growth of the area and its cultural development. In the villages, the farmers had only exploitations of small surface and 1910 at the end of the Twenties, one foot-note of many conflicts in the farmers. In 1926, the railway line Minobu began its activity, thus putting a final point at the river transport on the Fuji river. In 1945, within the framework of a reform of the land and buildings, the individual farms could take a new rise. In parallel, developed the fruit-bearing cultures. The period which followed was that of a strong growth of industry and trade. In 1982, the Chuo highway was opened with the public, which gave rise to the activities of the tertiary sector that one still currently meets.

Geography

The department of Yamanashi is about in the center of Honshu, the principal island of Japan. It is bordered of the prefectures of Tōkyō, Kanagawa, Saitama, Shizuoka and Nagano. Yamanashi has a surface of 4 464,6 km ², and is surrounded by high mountains which are drawn up between 2000 and 3000 meters. The department is covered with forests on 78% of its surface, including three national parks and a park quasi-national, like the famous National park of Fuji-Hakone-Izu. The town of Kōfu, capital of the prefecture of Yamanashi, occupies an important position from the geographical point of view, puiqu' it connects the industrial parks of the Pacific Ocean to the coasts of the Sea of Japan. From its geographical position inside the grounds, the prefecture of Yamanashi does not have a littoral.

  • Agriculture

The climate and the situation of the department of Yamanashi are appropriate particularly well for the production of fruits: table grapes, fishings, plums, cherries, khaki, Japanese apples and apricots greater quantity here than everywhere else in Japan being worth with Yamanashi its reputation of " Kingdom of the fruits".

Yamanashi is famous for its viticultural production. Indeed the hundred viticultural establishments which exist in Yamanashi produce about half of all the wine produced in Japan.

During last years, companies of Mécatronique settled in the department of Yamanashi and their activities developed to with it which represent today one of the engines of the economy of the department.

  • Jewelry

With Idar-Oberstein, in Germany, the town of Kōfu is also one of the greatest centers of the world for the size of the invaluable stones and the manufacture of the jewels. The size and the polishing of the invaluable stones were sophisticated starting from the techniques brought back to Yamanashi by a Shinto priest who had learned how to cut crystal balls in Kyoto. The technical control of Kōfu ensures a worldwide market for its products to him, like the crystal, the agathes, jade and the opals, and it was worth the privilege to him to have the only museum of the jewelry of Japan.

Yamanashi is a popular tourist destination. The Mount Fuji, the area of the Fujigoko, the town of Kōfu, the proximity of viticultural establishments, charming it Erin-ji temple, and celebrates it Kuonji temple are some of the principal places to visit. It shelters the amusement park Fuji-Q Highland with its news Russian Montagnes Eejanaika.

The ecotourism is sails particularly about it in the area. The natural Topography of the area; the Fuji Mount and of the Five Lakes, the Alps of the South, the area of Chihibu-Tama-Kai and the area of the mountains of Yatsugatake make of Yamanashi the paradise of the hikers.

Being given the volcanic activity, natural hot sources, Onsen are there in abundance. The greatest thermal spring of the area, located at Isawa, is at one hour and half of Tokyo.
