Prefecture of Shizuoka

The prefecture of Shizuoka (静岡県, Shizuoka-ken ) is a prefecture Japan located in the area of Chūbu.

Geography

The prefecture of Shizuoka is an area lengthened on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. To the west, the prefecture extends in the the Japanese Alps, whereas more in the east it forms a narrow coast bordered by the Mont Fuji in north, until reaching the Péninsule of Izu, a popular tourist site pointing towards the south in the Pacific Ocean. The prefecture is divided downtown (市 shi ) and districts (郡 gun). The capital of the prefecture of Shizuoka (静岡県, Shizuoka-ken ) and the town of Shizuoka (静岡市, Shizuoka-shi ), which is subdivided in three districts. The prefecture of Shizuoka is bordered of the prefectures of Aichi, Nagano, Yamanashi and Kanagawa.

Economy

  • Shizuoka, the capital of the prefecture, is rather a town of small shopkeepers.
  • Hamamatsu is an industrial town, it is in particular the town of Yamaha and the city where Suzuki was creates. There are many Brazilian in Hamamatsu, in relation to a Japanese emigration to the Brésil and with the Peru (see Japanese in Brazil) at the beginning of the 20th century)
  • Yaizu, between Hamamatsu and Shizuoka, is one of the largest fishing ports of Japan
  • Fuji is an important paper city with the foot of the Mont Fuji and a door towards Izu.

Shizuoka and its surroundings are known for several agricultural productions:

  • the green the, which covers the foot of the mountains between Shizuoka and Hamamatsu
  • of the strawberries primeures, which start to be marketed as of the first days
from January (on the frond of sea, between Shizuoka and Shimizu-ku)
  • of the clementines (area around Hamamatsu).

History

The prefecture was formerly made up of the provinces of Suruga and Izu. This prefecture was the residence of first Shogun Tokugawa and it is undoubtedly its historical element most outstanding. This area was controlled by Tokugawa Ieyasu until it conquers the grounds of the Clan Hojo in the area of the Kanto and gives it to the one men of Oda Nobunaga. Once become Shogun, Tokugawa took it again for its own family.

Culture

the dancer of Izu , one of the news of Yasunari Kawabata (Nobel Prize of literature in 1968) is located in the Péninsule of Izu.
