History

The name of “the prefecture of Saitama” appeared in 1871, at the time of Haihan-Chiken. This old prefecture was equivalent to the zones power station and that of is current. At the same time, the Iruma prefecture was created. It was equivalent to the remainders of the current territory. In 1873, the Iruma prefecture amalgamated with that of Gunma and became the Kumagaya prefecture. After three years, the Kumagaya prefecture divided, and the ex-territory of the Iruma prefecture amalgamated with the prefecture of Saitama. Thus the current prefecture it is formed.
