Prefecture of Qamdo

The prefecture of Qamdo (or Chamdo) (昌都地区; Pinyin: Chāngdū Dìqū; Tibetan: ཆབ་མདོ་ས་ཁུལ་ ; Transliteration Wylie: chab-mdo its khul) is an administrative subdivision of the autonomous region of the Xizang (Tibet) in China. Its administrative center is located in the Comté of Qamdo.

Climate

The climate is of mountain type. The average temperatures for the town of Qamdo go from approximately -2°C for the coldest month to +17°C for the hottest month, with an annual average of 7,4°C, and the Pluviométrie is there of 473 mm .

Demography

The population of the prefecture was estimated at: 570000 inhabitants in 2004 .

Transport

The airport of Bangda (Code AITA BPX) holds the world records of altitude for the commercial airports, with: 4334 meters. There exists a daily flight of the company Air China connecting it to Lhassa, and another with Chengdu .
