Mie (三重県, mieken ) is a prefecture Japan located at the east of the island of Honshū.
The prefecture of Mie was founded after the Meiji restoration starting from the old provinces of Ise, Shima and Iga.
It is surrounded of the prefectures of Aichi, Gifu, Shiga, Kyōto, Nara and Wakayama.
It is located at the east of the peninsula of Kii. It belongs to the area of the Kansai (also called Kinki) but is relatively close to the town of Nagoya, of which it shelters part of the suburbs. The prefecture rather mountainous, is surrounded by a coastal plain around Bay of Ise. The peninsula of Shima constitutes a mountainous barrier. Peaceful side, on Shima, the mountains plunge directly in the ocean, describing small splits.

Mie is also the place of creation of the first pearls of culture in the world. The pearl-bearing industry bequeathed by the founder Mikimoto continuous to exert the culture of the pearls on Mikimoto Pearl Island, out of Bay of Ise.
